The Millerton Area Watershed Coalition will conduct a comprehensive assessment of our watershed to provide information to promote the protection and enhancement of the watershed including the economic and environmental well being of the communities within it and of the downstream users.

The Millerton Area Watershed Coalition has recently completed an assessment of the watershed and its condition.  The assessment covers the following areas: 

Ř Surface Water Quality

Ř Groundwater Quality and Quantity

Ř Fuels and Fire Safety

Ř Invasive Species

Ř Wildlife 

Many of you have participated in these assessment activities—and now we are inviting you to attend this important meeting to share information about what the condition is of the natural resources in our foothill communities.

This community-based program is strictly voluntary and non-regulatory in nature.  The Millerton Area Watershed Coalition is composed of participants that represent land owners and others that have an interest in the protection and sustainable use of our natural resources in the foothill region of the San Joaquin River drainage.  The Coalition has been in existence since 1998.  Organizations that have partnered include the Coarsegold and Sierra Resource Conservation Districts, Highway 168 FireSafe Council, Sierra-San Joaquin Weed Management Alliance, Sierra Foothill Conservancy, and the Central Sierra Watershed Committee in a technical advisory role (TAC).   

Funding has been provided by the California Bay-Delta Program (CALFED) which has as an objective to restore ecological health and improve water management by working with the community at a watershed level.
